Mesothelioma Treatments - Vinorelbine Drug Therapy
Vinorelbine:
Mesothelioma is generally unresponsive to most chemotherapy treatment, but vinorelbine has been shown to have a response rate of nearly 25% in patients with mesothelioma and low toxicity. Doctors at St. Bartholomew's Hospital in London, England first reported a response rate for single chemical agent vinorelbine in patients with mesothelioma. See J.P. Steele, et al. - "Phase II study of vinorelbine in patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma," in Journal of Clinical Oncology 2000 18: 3912-3917. In recent followup research, they combined vinorelbine and oxaliplatin in trials in which partial responses were observed. See J.P. Steele, et al. - "Phase II trial of vinorelbine and oxaliplatin ("VO") in patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma," Abstract 1335 of the 37th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology; May 12-15, 2001 (San Francisco).
A study to determine the toxicity of different doses of gemcitabine and
vinorelbine in various advanced cancers including mesothelioma. See J.P.
Delord, et al. - "A dose-finding study of gemcitabine and vinorelbine in
advanced previously treated malignancies", in Annals of Oncology, January
2000; 11(1):73-79.
