Widow of UK asbestos victim warns other builders
The widow of a UK builder who died of malignant mesothelioma after reportedly being exposed to asbestos on the job is warning other workers to protect themselves to avoid similar fates.

According to the Bolton News, Cyril Jennings spent most of his working career as an engineer in laboratories at a factory, where he claimed he handled asbestos-containing tubes and was exposed to the carcinogen a few times per week.

Jennings' wife, Jennifer, said following an inquest into her husband's cause of death that workers need to protect themselves at all times.

"I don’t think people realize that asbestos kills. I implore any builder to make sure they wear protective clothing and masks," she said. "You just don’t know where asbestos is, it is still in buildings now. I don’t want this to happen to anyone else."

In addition to malignant mesothelioma - a rare form of cancer - asbestos exposure has been linked to the development of asbestosis and lung cancer. All told, asbestos-related diseases kill approximately 107,000 people around the world each year, according to the World Health Organization.
