Widow claims deceased UK policeman exposed to asbestos on the job
The widow of a deceased policeman in the UK claims that the man contracted his malignant mesothelioma as a result of asbestos exposure he endured while on the job.

Last year, the Deputy Coroner for Birmingham recorded Frank Dodd's death as the result of an industrial disease, according to the Sunday Mercury. Now, Dodd's widow, Frances, says asbestos at the police stations in which her husband worked was responsible for his mesothelioma diagnosis and subsequent death.

Frances Dodd said she was shocked when she heard that her husband had mesothelioma as he was not a factory worker. Such workers are often exposed to asbestos as the naturally occurring substance was once widely used as an insulator and flame retardant in industrial settings.

However, before his passing Dodd told his wife when he was exposed to asbestos.

"He told me about one time they were clearing a room in Digbeth police station in the 1970s that was full of it. I know he would have also been exposed to it while at Steelhouse Lane police station when they removed asbestos from there," she told the news provider.

In addition to malignant mesothelioma, asbestos can cause asbestosis and lung cancer.
