UK woman lashes out at council over asbestos concerns
A woman in the UK recently criticized a local municipal authority for allowing her family to live with asbestos in their loft for three years, the Redditch Standard reports. The asbestos discovery was reportedly first made when workers installed insulation in the loft of Sarah Congrave's home in September 2008, the news provider said. The workers explained to Congrave that they would not be able to complete the insulation work because of the asbestos, and encouraged her to contact the Redditch Borough Council.
However, Congrave claims that when she did reach out to the council, they simply told her there was not any asbestos in the loft and that they would reschedule the insulation work, according to the news source.
Still, despite the efforts of Congrave, workers did not return to the site until a few days ago, saying once again that the work could not be completed due to asbestos.
"For three years it has been really bad, I have had serious chest infections and my daughter has had ulcers appear on her eyes," Congrave told the news source. "They should never have left us living there," she said.
Exposure to asbestos can cause a number of deadly diseases including asbestosis, lung cancer and malignant mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer.
