UK woman claims contractors left asbestos project half done
A UK woman says that contractors who began removing asbestos from her house left before the job was completed.According to the Shropshire Star, Sarah Gordon said she told her insurance company that she had a leak under her sink, which spread under her kitchen floor. The firm hired by the insurance company told Gordon after they fixed the leak that there was asbestos underneath her kitchen floor tiles and it would have to be removed.
Gordon says the company began to tear up the floor but then left without completing the job.
"They stopped the leak and about a week later we had the damp people come and pull the floors up. When they were here they said they had found asbestos in the floors," she told the news source. "About a week later they came to test for asbestos and said we would have the results in 48 hours. Two weeks later we got them."
Asbestos exposure can have deadly consequences as the inhalation of the naturally occurring mineral can cause lung cancer, asbestosis and malignant mesothelioma, a rare and deadly cancer.
