UK residents upset over repair delays due to asbestos
Residents of Highams Park in the UK have expressed frustration over the fact that repairs to their homes have been delayed by asbestos and other reasons.

According to the Epping Forest Garden, scaffolding was removed from the houses ahead of the Highams Park Day celebration, as it was reportedly viewed by some as an eyesore.

However, the residents are now upset that the removal of the scaffolding has caused repair work on their homes to be delayed. The work has also reportedly been delayed due to the discovery of asbestos on the site, the news source reported.

Kate Sinclair, an official with housing manager Ascham Homes, said that work is still expected to be completed by the end of next month.

"The works to the rear facade, which includes render repairs, guttering, external decoration and replacement of asbestos, are ongoing over the next three-to-four weeks and will have been completed, and all scaffolding removed, by the end of August," she said.

Removing asbestos is a critical component of renovation work as exposure to the carcinogenic substance can lead to the development of lung cancer, asbestosis and malignant mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer.
