Mesothelioma Treatment

UK man stricken with mesothelioma seeking financial assistance
A Croxley Green, UK man suffering from the rare asbestos-related cancer malignant mesothelioma has reportedly appealed for financial assistance to help him pay for the treatment he is receiving that is keeping him alive.

The Watford Observer reports that Keith Turnbull, who was diagnosed with mesothelioma in October 2008, was originally given just six months to live, but has been able to survive thanks to a German procedure not currently available in the UK.

"The treatment is called localized chemo-embolization, people come from all over the world to try it, and it is an official German Government-funded program," Turnbull's wife told the news provider.

However, since Keith Turnbull reportedly came into contact with asbestos prior to knowledge of the dangers of the carcinogenic mineral, he has not been able to seek compensation for the condition and has been forced to retire from his job, the news source said.

As a result, the Croxley Green Residents Association has decided to open a community fundraising account in order to help raise awareness and funding for Turnbull to continue his treatment.

In addition to malignant mesothelioma, asbestos exposure can lead to the development of lung cancer and asbestosis.
