Mesothelioma Litigation

UK man files asbestos compensation claim over father's mesothelioma death
The son of former UK shop display manager Maurice Rivers, who died from the rare cancer malignant mesothelioma, is reportedly seeking a significant amount of financial compensation from those responsible for exposing the man to asbestos.

According to the Reading Post, David Rivers is pursuing compensation of up to £150,000 from John Lewis, the successor company of his father's former employer. David Rivers claims his father worked for Heelas Ltd. from 1951 to 1992, when John Lewis began running the store. He remained in his post until 1995.

Maurice Rivers reportedly worked on window displays, including stapling and hammering objects to walls and ceilings, some of which contained asbestos, his son claims.

His son claims that if Maurice had not been stricken with malignant mesothelioma, it is likely he would have lived another five years.

As a result, David Rivers is seeking damages for his father's estate as well as his 80-year-old widow, according to the news provider.

Aside from malignant mesothelioma, asbestos exposure can also lead to the development of other serious illnesses such as asbestosis and lung cancer. These diseases kill approximately 107,000 people around the world each year, according to the World Health Organization.
