UK inquests point to asbestos link with deaths
The recent inquests of three men from Bradford, UK, indicate that asbestos has been a major concern in the industrial area for quite some time.According to the Bradford Telegraph & Argus, the inquests found that Eric Waite, Sandor Kovacs and Jack Lobley all succumbed to asbestos-related illnesses such as malignant mesothelioma, which attacks the tissues surrounding many of the body's internal organs.
The news source reports that each of the cases involved instances where the men worked with or around asbestos-containing products throughout their careers, with the exposure typically occurring decades prior to their mesothelioma diagnoses.
In the case of Kovacs, for instance, the welder worked for approximately 30 years for a number of companies across the UK, and doctors told him his asbestos-related illness likely occurred as a result of his removing asbestos lagging during his career.
Asbestos-related illnesses such as malignant mesothelioma, asbestosis and lung cancer kill approximately 107,000 people around the world each year, the World Health Organization estimates.
