Mesothelioma Litigation

UK deputy postmaster dies of mesothelioma caused by asbestos exposure at work
A coroner's inquest in the UK recently heard that an assistant postmaster died of malignant mesothelioma caused by the asbestos exposure he endured while on the job.

The inquest heard that Keith Stiley would often visit the basement of the old post office in Cheltenham's Promenade, where there were a number of broken asbestos pipes, according to ThisIsGloucestershire.com.

"There was loose lagging on the pipes and dust in the atmosphere. The whole place was very dusty and there was no ventilation and no windows," Stiley said in a statement before he died.

Deputy coroner David Dooley said that the mesothelioma was caused by asbestos exposure and recorded Stiley's death as a result of industrial disease. He said that Stiley's daily trips into the asbestos-contaminated basement at the post office caused him to develop the rare and deadly cancer.

While he was still alive, Stiley was able to secure an asbestos settlement from the post office, where he reportedly worked for nearly 40 years.

In addition to malignant mesothelioma, asbestos exposure can cause asbestosis and lung cancer.
