UK coroner rules 59-year-old died of asbestos-caused mesothelioma
A 59-year-old UK man died of mesothelioma caused by occupational asbestos exposure, a coroner ruled.

North and west Cumbria coroner David Roberts ruled that James MacKenzie died of an industrial disease, the News & Star reports.

MacKenzie was reportedly exposed to asbestos while he worked for a building company in Carlisle. At that job - where he worked from 1969 to 1972 - he was exposed to dust that was created through the cutting of asbestos sheeting.

Asbestos was once commonly used in building materials as it was prized for its utility as an insulator and resistance to fire. However, it has since been proven that exposure to the naturally occurring substance can cause a number of serious illnesses such as malignant mesothelioma, asbestosis and lung cancer.

An asbestos expert employed by the MacKenzie family's mesothelioma attorneys said that the loss of James was hard on his family.

"As result of this cruel illness, James' family have been robbed of their future together," he said, reports the news source. "James was only 59 when he was snatched from his family due to mesothelioma cancer."
