UK Parish to undergo asbestos removal
UK Parish to undergo asbestos removal
A UK parish council has decided to hire a company to demolish a shed lined with asbestos on the parish's property, GetBracknell.co.uk reports.

According to the news provider, Crowthorne Parish Council wanted to demolish the shed, which is located in an area behind the parish hall, because it contained asbestos, a dangerous mineral that causes deadly diseases such as mesothelioma and asbestosis.

The council approached two different companies for quotes on costs for the asbestos removal, and decided to hire Active Building and Decorating, which wanted £1,092 for the job. The alternative company had asked for £3,466 to complete the project, according to the news source.

At a recent meeting of the Crowthorne Parish Council, councilman Richard Price said, "I recommend that we accept the quote from Active Builders. We don't have a big budget for it, but £1,092 seems reasonable." Price added, "Active Builders is a local, Berkshire builder and they are the preferred supplier."

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 125 million people in the world are exposed to asbestos in the workplace.
