Mesothelioma Treatment

Thousands of dollars raised for UK mesothelioma sufferer
A fundraising campaign in the UK will reportedly help a man who is suffering from malignant mesothelioma to seek full treatment in order to help keep him alive, reports the Watford Observer.

Keith Turnbull, who was diagnosed with the asbestos-related cancer in October 2008, believes he ultimately contracted the illness through inhaling the deadly mineral fibers on his father's work clothes between 20 and 30 years ago, according to the news source.

While he was initially only given six months to live, he has been able to fend off the disease to this point due to a procedure in Germany that is not currently available in the UK. As such, traveling to and from Germany has been expensive and Turnbull contacted the news source seeking any possible financial assistance.

Now, significant funds have been raised for Turnbull through charity concerts, marathons and other campaigns, according to the news source.

"The publicity has helped to raise nearly enough for a complete treatment, which is fantastic, and due to people in the community's generosity," Turnbull's wife, Judith, told the news provider. "It really is heart-warming."

In addition to malignant mesothelioma, exposure to asbestos has been proven to cause lung cancer and asbestosis.
