Mesothelioma News

Former chef is diagnosed with mesothelioma following asbestos exposure
A former chef in Salisbury, UK, recently was recently diagnosed with terminal mesothelioma, a serious lung disease. It was revealed that the man was exposed to asbestos in the 1980s while working in a now-defunct Italian restaurant.

Luigi Pes, a 60-year-old father of two, was diagnosed with mesothelioma in 2008, after working for years in the La Gondola restaurant, the Salisbury Journal reported.

"I worked there with no idea about the damage asbestos could do to my health. In later years, when I became aware about the dangers of asbestos, I had an idea that I had been exposed but I never expected that I would end up with this disease," Pes told the newspaper.

He added that he is trying to relish the days he has remaining.

Malignant mesothelioma, a disease closely linked to chrysotile asbestos, has an exceedingly poor prognosis.

The UK watchdog group Health and Safety Executive estimates that 38 working class adults - like tradesmen, plumbers, electricians and carpenters - die every week from the complications of asbestos exposure.
