Asbestos Litigation
Former UK railway worker awarded asbestos compensation
A "substantial" amount of asbestos compensation was recently awarded to a former railway worker from Crewe, England, after he reportedly developed malignant mesothelioma due to being exposed to asbestos on the job.According to the Crewe and Nantwich Guardian, 82-year-old Dennis Jones received the asbestos compensation stemming from his employment at Crewe Railway Works. The news source reports that there are a number of Crewe residents suffering from mesothelioma, likely as a result of similar occupational asbestos exposure.
Following the payout, Jones said he was pleased with the decision and noted that the compensation will be crucial for his family in the future.
"I decided to claim compensation so that my wife is provided for in the future," he told the news source. "I was impressed with how quickly everything was managed.”
According to the Mirror, one person dies approximately every five hours from mesothelioma in Britain. In addition to mesothelioma, asbestos exposure can lead to the development of asbestosis and lung cancer. Overall, the World Health Organization estimates such illnesses kill approximately 107,000 people around the world each year.
