Mesothelioma News

Former UK plumber died of asbestos-related mesothelioma contracted on the job
Former UK plumber Peter Rodney Allen recently died after contracting the asbestos-related disease malignant mesothelioma, according to the Wokingham Times.

The news source reports that an inquest into the man's death occurred on July 21, with coroner Peter Bradford recording the man's death as a result of an industrial disease leading to malignant mesothelioma.

Allen's wife, Linda, said her husband would be missed by everyone who knew him.

"He was a very remarkable man and he was loved by everyone. He has so many friends and family and he will be greatly missed," she said.

At the inquest, it came to light that part of Allen's responsibility was to mix asbestos-containing lagging to be used in pipes. Additionally, he was occasionally charged with removing asbestos from buildings with his bare hands, the inquest heard.

In a statement prior to his death, Allen explained that he was never given a mask to protect himself nor alerted to the potential dangers of exposure to asbestos.

Asbestos-related illnesses such as lung cancer, asbestosis and malignant mesothelioma kill approximately 107,000 people around the world each year, according to the World Health Organization.
