Former UK painter dies of asbestos-related disease
A former painter and decorator in the UK recently died as a result of asbestos-related malignant mesothelioma, an inquest heard recently.

The Sentinel reports that 45-year-old Frank Skidmore was ultimately diagnosed with the rare cancer in 2007, after he had worked with asbestos-containing materials while training in painting as a teenager.

According to the news source, Skidmore did not receive any compensation while his disease went undiagnosed, but after years of pain, he ultimately received a substantial settlement.

"They thought he was being a drama queen, but when he finally got diagnosed he always had a smile on his face because at last they believed him," his mother, Eileen, told the news provider.

North Staffordshire deputy coroner Anthony Curzon reportedly recorded Skidmore's death as a result of an industrial disease.

According to the Mirror, malignant mesothelioma - which occurs in the tissues surrounding many of the body's inner organs - kills approximately one person every five hours in Britain. Other diseases that can be caused by asbestos exposure include lung cancer and asbestosis.
