Former UK electrician succumbs to asbestos disease at young age
A UK man who worked as an apprentice electrician died recently at the age of 40 from asbestos-related pleural thickening, an illness that leads to scarring of the lungs.

According to the Brighouse Echo, Glynn Davies was admitted to the hospital on December 23 but was back home in time to celebrate Christmas two days later. On Christmas night, however, he returned to the hospital, and two days later he passed away, the news source said.

"He came home to see [his daughter] Mia open her presents," Davies' wife, Adele, told the news provider. "I just feel empty and my little girl has lost her daddy."

During a December 2010 interview, Glynn Davies told the news source he believed his illness stemmed from his time as an apprentice electrician, where he claims he was exposed to asbestos fibers on roofs and pipes that were lined with the carcinogenic material.

In addition to pleural thickening, asbestos exposure has been proven to cause lung cancer, asbestosis and malignant mesothelioma, a rare cancer that attacks the tissues surrounding a majority of the body's internal organs.
