Smoke from Australian factory fire spreads asbestos fears
Former London fireman exposed to asbestos
A former firefighter from London, England, died recently after he was reportedly exposed to asbestos during his career, reports the Lynn News.

According to the news source, 69-year-old Christopher Bull, who had retired from his position, died at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Lynn after a 23-year firefighting career.

Coroner William Armstrong told a hearing in Lynn County Court that Bull had been employed as a fireman from 1966 to 1989, during which time he was exposed to asbestos.

"It is clear that Mr. Bull died as a direct link to his exposure to asbestos during his working life," Bull noted. "He died from an industrial disease."

Bull was reportedly admitted to the hospital after becoming ill and was diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer that occurs in the tissues surrounding many of the body's internal organs. In addition to mesothelioma, asbestos exposure can lead to the development of asbestosis and lung cancer.

The World Health Organization estimates that such illnesses kill approximately 107,000 people around the world each year.
