Mesothelioma Litigation

UK government delays reforms over legal aid for asbestos victims
Family of UK mesothelioma victim plans to fight for 'justice'
The family of a woman from Whitchurch, UK, who reportedly died last year of mesothelioma after being exposed to asbestos during the 1950s, will attempt to seek justice, the Bristol Evening Post reports.

According to the news provider, a recent inquest at Flax Bourton Coroner's Court heard that 87-year-old Maureen Hutton died last November after she had received a mesothelioma diagnosis the previous September.

In a statement released prior to her death, Hutton said that the only time she could remember working near asbestos was when she worked as a shorthand typist at the Alfred Miles Fire Appliances factory between 1951 and 1953. She explained that she remembered the facility being extremely dusty and that she always had her door open to the factory floor.

An asbestos attorney for Hutton's family said after the inquest that they plan to continue the woman's legal battle and that they are looking for any of the woman's former co-workers to assist in the fight for justice.

Exposure to asbestos can lead to the development of lung cancer and asbestosis, in addition to malignant mesothelioma. According to the World Health Organization, approximately 107,000 people around the world die each year as a result of asbestos-related illnesses.
