Family of UK mesothelioma victim awarded compensation
The family of a woman who died from malignant mesothelioma, a rare asbestos-related cancer, recently received a five-figure compensation payment, reports the Bolton News.According to the news source, Edna White contracted mesothelioma and died at the age of 68 in May 2008. White's daughter, Jill Blake, made an appeal in the publication last April for more information regarding her mother's work at Lorival Plastics Limited.
As a result of the appeal, a number of people decided to come forward to tell the family about White's occupation and her contact with asbestos. Such information reportedly led to the substantial settlement, according to the family.
"We hope this will encourage other people to answer appeals and raise awareness of asbestos and its impact," Blake told the news source.
According to the news source, White, who is survived by her husband, two children and four grandchildren, reportedly died just a few months after being given the mesothelioma diagnosis.
In addition to mesothelioma, exposure to asbestos can cause lung cancer and asbestosis.
