Eco-friendly house could replace asbestos-containing UK garages
Developers T-Space Architects recently issued a bid to construct an environmentally friendly house in place of asbestos-containing garages in the UK, according to This Is Local London. The news source reports that the house would include a lawn on the roof, a heat retention system and solar panels.
While some local residents have expressed concerns over keeping the area private and maintaining enough parking, 63-year-old Aileen Brownlee - who recently renovated her home into an eco-friendly building - told the news source that such projects represented the "way forward."
"We should be including stipulations for developers to introduce green things into their designs, like solar panels," Brownlee explained.
Whether or not the site is transformed into an environmentally friendly structure, it is critical that asbestos is properly removed and disposed of, as the exposure to the carcinogen can cause lung cancer, asbestosis and malignant mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer that occurs in the tissues surrounding a majority of the body's internal organs.
