Demolition work at UK council house to begin
The demolition work at a part of a UK municipal authority's home is ready to begin after an asbestos survey was conducted.A number of sections at the Derby's Council House will undergo asbestos abatement before they are demolished, according to ThisIsDerbyshire.com.
It is anticipated that the whole project will take about 19 weeks, with the news source reporting that the work will be completed sometime in July.
Before the sections of the building can actually be torn down, it is vital that asbestos is completely removed, because if the deadly mineral fibers are released and inhaled by anyone in the vicinity, they can cause lung cancer, asbestosis and malignant mesothelioma, a rare cancer.
DSM Demolition is in charge of the asbestos removal and the razing. The firm's contracts manager, Billy Young, said that the project will provide a number of jobs for local workers.
"In addition to our in-house specialist demolition services, we will be seeking to provide local employment opportunities to successfully deliver the works," he told the news source.
