Charity walk for asbestos in Ontario
There will be a charity walk for people who have lost their lives to asbestos in Sarnia, Ontario, on October 1. According to the Sarnia Observer, the founders of the event believe that it is now gaining support because of a recent spurt in national attention to asbestos.The Walk to Remember Victims of Asbestos will be held at 10 a.m. in Sarnia's Centennial Park, according to the news source. There will also be a candlelight vigil held in the park at 6:30 p.m.
A widow of a asbestos victim, Michaela Keyserlingk is also a big supporter of the cause and recently received a threatening letter from the Conservative party after using their logo on her website that is campaigning to end federal funding of asbestos, according to The Star.
The website helped pay for ad banners that read "Canada is the only western country that still exports deadly asbestos!" Browsers that click on the ad would be lead to her website which would tell her late husband's story of how he contracted malignant mesothelioma while working as a naval cadet, according to the news source.
