Canadian city invites asbestos lobbyist to meet with victims, families
A city in Ontario, Canada, will invite a prominent lobbyist of the asbestos industry to visit the municipality to show him the devastation the naturally occurring fiber causes in an upcoming press conference.

Sarnia will ask Baljit Chadha - who in recent weeks has been campaigning for support for reopening an asbestos mine in Quebec - to visit the city to meet with asbestos victims and their families, according to the Sarnia Observer.

"We would like Mr. Chadha to meet us and see first hand the suffering that asbestos has caused to so many Canadians," Stacy Cattran, whose father died of an asbestos-related disease, told the news source.

Exposure to asbestos has been proven for decades to cause a number of serious illnesses such as malignant mesothelioma, asbestosis and lung cancer. Despite these well-documented risks, Chadha and other advocates of the asbestos industry falsely claim that chrysotile, or white, asbestos can be used safely.

Sarnia has been active in the movement to stop Canada's asbestos trade, having been the host of a walk to remember asbestos victims in early October.
