British family concerned about presence of asbestos in their home
A former British soldier is asking his housing association to provide his family a new dwelling as the current one has asbestos and mold issues.Nigel Grant - who served in Iraq in 2008 - is asking the De Montfort Housing Society to find his family a new home, according to the Melton Times.
When informed of the problem, the society agreed to rip up the tiles in a number of rooms but will not provide temporary housing for Grant and his family while the work is being done and will not provide replacement tiles, reports the news provider.
Grant says he is fearful for the affects that asbestos and mold could have on his family.
"I have researched the affects of asbestos and mold exposure and am very concerned," he told the news source.
The father-of-three is right to be concerned as any amount of asbestos exposure can cause a range of serious illnesses such as malignant mesothelioma, asbestosis and lung cancer.
Victoria Clarke, the environmental protection and safety manager for Melton Council, said that her organization would be working with the housing society to ensure the work is handled properly.
