Australian woman pulls child from school due to potential asbestos exposure
An Australian woman has pulled her daughter out of high school because she had been frequently ill following damage that disturbed asbestos at the school.

Vivienne Piper took her 14-year-old daughter Elena out of Galvin Park Secondary College following her third bout with pneumonia in the past four months, according to the Star News Group.

Weather had reportedly caused the school to endure damage to its roofing, which caused asbestos to be disturbed. Piper is concerned that asbestos exposure may be the cause of her daughter's illnesses.

She also said that the school should have done more to alert parents about their situation.

"I'm totally disgusted with the school due to the lack of duty of care," she said. "They knew about this a long time ago and they didn’t let the parents know so they could get health checks for their kids."

It is vital that parents and school administrators are aware of any asbestos risks at the school as exposure to the naturally occurring substance can cause a number of serious illnesses such as asbestosis, malignant mesothelioma and lung cancer.

Piper said that if she could connect the substance to her daughter's illness she would file an asbestos lawsuit, reports the news provider.
