Asbestos-related death fuels search for former co-workers in Australia
An Australian asbestos law firm is searching for former colleagues of one its clients who died because of an asbestos-related disease, according to the Geelong Advertiser. The man who died worked for the company Alcoa from 1961 to 1965 and now the asbestos lawyers are looking for other employees from the same period to ask them some questions about possible asbestos exposure in the workplace.
"This poor fellow has passed away and the fact that he has passed on is one of the primary reasons we've needed to go and search for co-workers because obviously we can't ask questions of him," one of the asbestos attorneys told the news source.
The physician from Alcoa stated he was not shocked when he found many of the employees from the '60s and '70's showed high mortality-rates with asbestos-related deaths.
Asbestos exposure has been known to cause a number of serious illnesses such as malignant mesothelioma, asbestosis and lung cancer. Jobs where asbestos is most likely to be found include mining, ship building and construction work.
