Mesothelioma News

Asbestos causes death of former engineer
An Englishman has died of mesothelioma, which he reportedly contracted from contact with asbestos.

Keith Rawlinson worked as an engineer for the vehicle manufacturer British Leyland for 20 years, the first 10 of which were marked by frequent contact with asbestos, according to the Bolton News. After the 64-year-old died on Christmas Day of last year, an inquest into the cause of death was undertaken.

Deputy coroner Alan Walsh determined that Rawlinson had died from an industrial disease, meaning an illness contracted during work with asbestos. Specifically, he died of bronchial pneumonia caused by his mesothelioma, a rare and deadly cancer.
Rawlinson's son, Darren, looked after his father towards the end of his life.

"It came as a shock to all of us when we were told he had this illness," Darren said at the cause of death hearing.

For many older industrial workers, like Rawlinson, the risk of asbestos exposure is very high because the deadly mineral was used heavily in various fields due to its resistance to heat. However, the cost of using asbestos is coming to light, as exposure to it can cause malignant mesothelioma, asbestosis and lung cancer.ADNFCR-3360-ID-19842153-ADNFCR
